Evagelia Laiakis, PhD, Associate Professor

Evagelia (Lia) C. Laiakis is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Radiation Medicine and Oncology at Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology. Additionally, she is the Director of Radiation Biology Education for the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Radiation Oncology Residency Program. She received her Ph.D. in Human Genetics with concentration in Radiation Biology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore (UMB) and completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Georgetown University. She is an elected Council Member to the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) and has been serving at the Programmatic Area Committee 1 (Basic Criteria, Epidemiology, Radiobiology, and Risk) since 2016. Dr. Laiakis’ research interests focus on metabolic perturbations and biomarker discovery utilizing metabolomics and lipidomics for biodosimetry, tumor and normal tissue responses to radiotherapy, and space biology.
