Dr. Juan C. Gea-Banacloche became a member of the MedStar Georgetown Division of Infectious Diseases and Travel Medicine in 2025. He trained in Allergy and Immunology and then Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Allery and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). He oversaw the of the Infectious Diseases Section of the Experimental Transplantation and Immunology Branch of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Infectious Diseases Consultation Service at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. He subsequently joined the Infectious Diseases Division at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, where he was Consultant and Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Alix School of Medicine between 2017 and 2021. Before joining Georgetown, he served as Senior Infectious Diseases Consultant for the Division of Clinical Research at NIAID, concurrently acting as an attending physician on the Transplant Infectious Diseases Service at the NIH Clinical Center.
Dr. Gea-Banacloche’s academic interests focus on the Intersection between Immunology and Infectious Diseases. He has published extensively on infections in hematologic malignancies, hematopietic stem cell transplant and cellular therapies.
