Muna Telsem, MD was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, with roots in Eritrea. She earned her undergraduate degree in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University and later completed her master's degree at Davenport University. She graduated magna cum laude with her medical degree from Avalon University School of Medicine and went on to complete her General Psychiatry residency at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, where she served as Chief Psychiatry Resident. Muna is a proud REACH alumna, where she focused on providing culturally competent care to patients struggling with addiction. Her passion for psychiatry is fueled by her love of psychopharmacology. You can often find her immersing in drinking coffee and reading the latest newsletter from The Carlat Psychiatry Report. Outside of work, Muna enjoys spending time with her two-year-old child, who is her world. She is an avid traveler, having embarked on numerous overseas trips for both medical missions and personal adventures. In her free time, she loves meditative walks and exploring new ways to promote health and well-being.
