Josefina Kather, MD grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, in a bicultural, bilingual household. She earned a B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Biology from the University of Vermont (UVM), where she volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, received the John Dewey Award for outstanding psychological research, and provided medical interpretation at public health clinics in the Dominican Republic. After college, she worked at a neurology clinic in Maryland before attending medical school at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she served as a medical interpreter at the Human Rights Clinic, volunteered with the Department of Community Service, and contributed to medical student education and training. She then completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, conducting research on DBT-informed therapy in inpatient child psychiatry and pursuing further training in pediatric nutrition and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Dr. Kather’s interests include school-based mental health, health policy and advocacy, underserved communities, Latino mental health, global health, maternal mental health, integrated behavioral health, and the role of nutrition in mental health. Outside of work, she enjoys exercising, family time, and traveling. She is excited to return to the DMV area and join the CAP family at Georgetown!
