Flavia DeSouza, MD, MHS, is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry. Trained at Yale and Georgetown, she brings a broad range of experience across academic medical centers, rural community clinics, and high-volume telepsychiatry platforms. She was honored as Outstanding Educator of the Year while on faculty at Howard University. A former American Psychoanalytic Association Fellow, Flavia integrates psychodynamic thinking into a flexible, evidence-based approach that includes psychopharmacology and multiple psychotherapy modalities.
Her clinical passions include early childhood mental health, transitional-aged youth, and the psychological needs of migrant families. Having worked in both resource-rich and time-constrained locum environments, she values efficiency, cultural humility, and supporting trainees in developing a grounded, authentic therapeutic presence.
Outside of work, Flavia is a mother to two young sons—a toddler and an infant—and draws daily on her training in infant mental health in their care. This personal experience deepens her sensitivity to the challenges of balancing clinical responsibilities with personal life, and she approaches supervision with empathy, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting fellows both professionally and personally.
