About me
Tricia Ting, MD, is professor of neurology and regional director of epilepsy at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. As regional director, her focus is to integrate epilepsy and EEG services across MedStar Health in order to bring the highest level of care to neurology patients in the Washington, D.C. and surrounding region.
Dr. Ting specializes in evaluating new onset seizures and caring for women with epilepsy. She has extensive experience in clinical trials of new drugs for epilepsy and seizure rescue therapies. Dr. Ting's current research is funded by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to answer a common concern of both patients and physicians, whether the action and safety of generic antiepileptic drugs is identical to brand-name medications in patients with epilepsy.
Individualizing care for every patient is central to Dr. Ting's philosophy of care at MedStar Georgetown. Her goal is to empower patients to optimize their seizure control by managing common risks and to minimize medication side effects. She works closely with patients to explore treatment options, including newer antiepileptic drugs.
Dr. Ting and the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery use an interdisciplinary approach to guide patients to their best treatment plan. The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at MedStar Georgetown is unique within the MedStar Health system. It is a specialized inpatient unit for evaluating and managing refractory seizures in adults and children. The EMU definitively diagnoses and localizes seizures by capturing them with simultaneous EEG brain wave recordings. An EMU evaluation is often the first step to determine if epilepsy surgery may be a treatment option for some patients with intractable seizures.
