About me
Dr. Teresa (Anjali) Narayan joined MedStar Georgetown University Hospital as an optometrist in 2013. In 2016, she was also appointed assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology at Georgetown University School of Medicine. As such, she serves as co-director of the Ophthalmic Medical Personnel Training Program with responsibility for both classroom and clinical instruction for students pursuing certification as ophthalmic assistants or ophthalmic medical technologists. Dr. Narayan also oversees staff technicians working in the ophthalmology clinic.
In addition to her clinical, teaching and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Narayan is also a co-investigator on several clinical trials.
Before joining MedStar Georgetown, Dr. Narayan was an associate optometrist for private practices in East Haven, Connecticut, and Bridgetown, Missouri. Previously, she served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at her alma mater, the University of Missouri, St. Louis College of Optometry.
Philosophy of Care
In addition to eye care, one of my passions is teaching. I enjoy bringing this aspect into my patient care by taking the time to make sure that patient education is a priority. Straight-forward communication fosters patient participation in their care and helps patients understand what to expect throughout the exam. They also leave with a thorough understanding of their condition and treatment which improves outcomes.
As an optometrist, I work closely with ophthalmologists as well as physicians of other medical specialties. I strive to make sure that consistent clear communication occurs between providers to ensure that the patient receives the best care possible. By keeping education and communication at the forefront of my practice, I continually work to provide a positive patient experience.
