About me
Scott DeBoer, MD, PhD, serves as Medical Director of Neurocritical Care Medicine at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. In this role, he is an instrumental member of the hospital’s Comprehensive Stroke Center team. MedStar Franklin Square was named a Comprehensive Stroke Center in 2023, the highest level of designation available by The Joint Commission and the Maryland Institute of EMS Systems (MIEMSS).
Dr. DeBoer leads MedStar Franklin Square’s 15-bed Neurocritical Care Unit. Here, patients who have experienced a stroke receive the highest quality, research and evidence-based care, as they recover from a stroke. Under Dr. DeBoer’s oversight, care is provided by a team of attending physicians who are trained and board certified in both neurology and neurocritical care, and who have access to the advanced imaging tools, advanced cardiac monitoring tools, continuous EEG monitoring devices, and advanced lab procedures. Together, they work to understand why patients experienced a stroke in the first place, and develop an appropriate plan of care to help each patient on his or her road to recovery.
Dr. DeBoer earned his medical degree as well as a PhD from the University of Chicago, where he was part of the schools’ Medical Scientist Training Program. He remained there for his first year of residency training, before relocating to Baltimore to complete his residency training, as well as fellowship training, at Johns Hopkins. Dr. DeBoer joined MedStar Health in 2020.
