About me
Dr. Jander believes in a team approach to patient care. This team includes the physician, his staff, and, most importantly, the patient. This collaborative team approach, Dr. Jander feels, is the best way to achieve the patient's goals. Factors to consider include restoring function, pain relief, improving quality of life, and returning to sports activities. Most orthopaedic injuries when correctly diagnosed can be treated without surgical intervention. When certain conditions necessitate surgery, Dr. Jander has both the experience and specialty training that translate into excellent patient outcomes. Realizing that surgery can be a worrisome experience, Dr. Jander takes the time to answer all of his patients' questions. Thoroughly explaining the process, the expectations, and the time for recovery is the best way, Dr. Jander believes, to make his patients feel comfortable.
With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Jander is double board certified by both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. A graduate of Washington and Lee University, he attended New Jersey Medical School where he earned his M.D. in 2000. He completed his general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. After residency, Dr. Jander continued his training in hand and upper extremity surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He moved to the Washington D.C. area after training where he has been practicing ever since.
In addition to his clinical practice as a part of the Medstar Orthopaedic Institute, Dr. Jander participates in education and community outreach initiatives. He teaches Georgetown University orthopaedic residents and leads community talks about topics ranging from shoulder pain to sports injuries of the hand; Dr. Jander feels this is an important duty as a specialist physician. He has multiple publications in the peer reviewed literature including a book chapter on arthroscopic ganglion excision as well as a review on post-surgical rehabilitation of biceps and triceps injuries.
Dr. Jander is a sports enthusiast who has played on teams his entire life; he understands the importance of an active lifestyle. He played football throughout high school and all four years at the collegiate level. He played rugby in medical school where he served as the team captain. Dr. Jander feels particularly empathetic with his patients as he has sustained many of the injuries that he treats today. He understands the importance of getting back to life.
