About me
Dr. Lischalk is a board-certified radiation oncologist with extensive experience in stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic body radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, and proton beam therapy. In addition to his positions as clinical director of the radiosurgery service and specialty service director of the Genitourinary Cancer Program at MedStar Georgetown, he serves as assistant director of the clinical trials office at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, vice-chief of clinical research for Medstar Radiation Oncology, and is a clinical associate professor at the Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Before joining MedStar Georgetown, Dr. Lischalk held several leadership positions at New York University Perlmutter Cancer Center, where he served as medical director of the NYU CyberKnife Center, director of research for the NYU-LI Department of Radiation Oncology, and clinical associate professor in the NYU-LI Grossman School of Medicine. He also previously served as director of thoracic radiation oncology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Lischalk earned his medical doctorate from the University of Washington School of Medicine. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Stamford/Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, followed by his residency and chief residency in the Department of Radiation Medicine at Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Lischalk’s clinical research focuses on genitourinary, thoracic, and central nervous system cancers, with particular expertise in innovative approaches to prostate cancer treatment, including MRI-directed SBRT microboost techniques and the integration of advanced technologies for precision treatment delivery. He has been at the forefront of developing clinical trials and has led several successful investigator initiated trials for novel treatments of prostate and lung cancers.
Dr. Lischalk has published over 75 peer-reviewed articles and regularly presents his research at national and international conferences. Since 2015, he has maintained a research collaboration with Heidelberg University Hospital/Ion Therapy Center in Germany, one of the world's premier centers for advanced radiation techniques including carbon ion therapy.
Beyond his clinical and research work, Dr. Lischalk is committed to medical education, having mentored numerous medical students, residents, and fellows throughout his career. He is actively involved in clinical trials and innovative treatment approaches for cancer patients, with a commitment to advancing radiation oncology techniques that improve outcomes while minimizing side effects. He is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Board of Radiology.
Philosophy of care
Because every patient is unique, Dr. Lischalk develops a treatment plan focused on the patient’s diagnosis and what is important to them and tailors the treatment approach to best meet their needs. He takes a multidisciplinary, collaborative approach to caring for patients, partnering with doctors from different specialties, including radiology, pathology, surgery, and medical oncology, to provide patients with unparalleled cancer care and achieve the best outcomes.
When he’s not working, Dr. Lischalk enjoys spending time with family and traveling internationally.
