About me
James Edward Benson, MD, is an obstetrician-gynecologist and assistant professor of gynecology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Benson is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). He is an active fellow with the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG).
Dr. Benson provides primary obstetrical care for a wide variety of pregnancies, including high-risk such as twins, comanaging with MFM subspecialists. He treats gynecological conditions such as abnormal uterine bleeding and ovarian cysts. If a surgical intervention is needed, he performs office-based procedures as well as laparoscopic and traditional open surgery. He believes that an integral part of being a doctor is educating his patients so, together, they can determine the best course of care. He prides himself on really getting to know his patients and taking the time to develop a trusting relationship with them. Dr. Benson's specialty offers a unique opportunity to achieve meaningful outcomes for his patients. Dr. Benson is also passionate about teaching the next generation of physicians and has won awards for excellence in both resident and medical student education.
Outside of work, Dr. Benson spends time with his family. He and his wife have three children. Dr. Benson believes that his personal life has helped him to better understand and treat his patients.
