About me
Elizabeth Barrows, MD, is a triple-board-certified medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer. She cares for patients with all types of breast cancer, including hormone receptor-positive, HER2-positive, and triple negative breast cancer. Dr. Barrows treats patients throughout their cancer journeys, providing chemotherapy, targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and precision medicine. She tailors her approach to each patient 's needs, preferences, background, and circumstances with the aim of improving quality of life.
She is passionate about educating her patients and empowering them to make the best decisions for their cancer care. Drawing from her experience in urban, rural, and underserved communities, she remains dedicated to delivering personalized care to every patient. She is also an active researcher and encourages patient enrollment in clinical trials.
Dr. Barrows’ research centers on discovering novel therapies and combinations for patients who have progressed beyond hormonal therapies. She also contributes to studies on symptom management and finds inspiration in recent advances in targeted therapies aimed at improving early-stage cancer outcomes and preventing progression.
After earning her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine, she completed her residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Barrows believes every patient deserves to fully understand their diagnosis and treatment options. Her role is to answer all her patients’ questions, provide clear and honest information, and guide them in making decisions that align with their goals, values, and life circumstances. She strives to make her patients feel seen, heard, and supported—never pressured—so they feel comfortable and confident in the care they’re receiving. She respects each patient’s autonomy and is committed to helping them make choices that feel right for them.
