About me

Daniel J. Dooley, MD, is a non-invasive cardiologist at the MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute and MedStar Cardiology Associates. As a cardiologist specializing in non-invasive treatments, Dr. Dooley works primarily with patients who have conditions like heart failure, hypertension, valvular disease, coronary artery disease, aortic diseases, atrial fibrillation, chest pain, and heart murmurs. He performs a wide range of diagnostic and treatment procedures that include nuclear stress testing, exercise stress echocardiography, dobutamine stress echocardiography, transthoracic echocardiography, and transesophageal echocardiography.

Dr. Dooley’s primary research interest has been Stage C heart failure (when patients have been diagnosed with heart failure and present symptoms) and the effectiveness of different medical therapies in these patients. Clinically, he is most interested in applying his skills in echocardiography to the treatment of different cardiovascular diseases, and specifically leveraging his knowledge of transesophageal echocardiography to care for patients with complex cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Dooley received his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine, followed by a residency program in internal medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, where he received the Wesley Oler, MD award as an outstanding resident physician. Prior to joining MedStar Cardiology Associates, Dr. Dooley completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at MedStar Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University Hospital.

He believes strongly in patient-centered care and assisting with patient-centered decision-making, aiming to always provide optimal care to his patients by applying the clinical and research knowledge gained through his training. Dr. Dooley is committed to participating in timely communication with his patients and other providers, as communication is paramount in his paradigm of care.

Philosophy of Care
“My goal is to provide a patient-centered approach with a focus on individual patient values and beliefs. As different cardiovascular conditions often present complex care decisions, I aim to integrate the patient’s specific principles into the decision-making process so that each patient feels comfortable, safe, and understood.”
