About me
Camille Boustani, MD, is a gastroenterologist and advanced endoscopist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. He specializes in treating complex polyps and lesions – both pre-cancerous and cancerous – in the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and colon. He also cares for patients who have swallowing disorders such as achalasia.
His medical training began at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency and his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, where he developed a strong foundation in digestive health. To further expand his expertise, Dr. Boustani completed an advanced endoscopy fellowship at Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan, Italy, under internationally recognized expert Dr. Alessandro Repici.
This training concentrated on third space endoscopy, including peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) – techniques used to treat swallowing disorders, complex polyps, and early cancers without traditional surgery. These highly precise and organ-sparing procedures reduce strain on the body and often result in a smoother recovery with a faster return to everyday life. He is the only provider at MedStar Health performing this state-of-the-art technique.
In his clinical practice, Dr. Boustani provides advanced endoscopic and minimally invasive care tailored to each patient’s needs. He offers detailed evaluation when symptoms are difficult to explain and relies on the most recently published and effective clinical evidence to deliver care to his patients. His approach centers on safety, clarity, and long-term well-being. He also partners closely with referring physicians to ensure timely assessment, specialized input, and seamless transitions back to established care teams once treatment is complete.
Additionally, he is an active researcher with peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international gastroenterology conferences. His research centers on innovative endoscopic techniques, bleeding control, and third space endoscopy. He is a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American College of Gastroenterology.
Philosophy of Care
“My philosophy of care begins with listening. Every person comes in with their own concerns, questions, and goals, and I believe the first step is understanding what matters most to you. From there, I work with you to create a plan that feels clear, thoughtful, and tailored to your needs.
I am committed to clear communication and taking the time to explain your options in plain language, so you feel informed and confident in every decision. By answering questions openly and making choices together, I strive to ensure your care feels both highly skilled and genuinely personal. My goal is for you and your family to be supported, reassured, and respected at every step, knowing that your health, comfort, and humanity always come first.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy playing tennis, skiing, and traveling. Staying active and exploring new places, cultures, and cuisines brings me joy and balance.”
