About me
Andrea Smith, CNM, WHNP-BC is a faculty midwife at in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Prior to joining Midwives of Medstar, Andrea worked at midwifery practices in Trenton, New Jersey and Prince George's County, Maryland. Andrea first fell in love with birth while shadowing midwives in Oaxaca and Morelos, Mexico. Her clinical interests include providing trauma-informed pelvic care, sexual health, and perinatal mental health.
Andrea holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Latin American Studies at Oberlin College. She then went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2010 and a Master of Science in Nursing in Midwifery and Women's Health in 2012 from the University of Pennsylvania. She also holds a Perinatal Mental Health Certification from Postpartum International.
A native of Washington, DC, Andrea is thrilled to be back in DC providing care to Washingtonians. When she's not midwifing, Andrea is spending time with her husband and two kids. She loves planning vacations, running, biking, baking, and reading.
