About me
Dr. Aarthi G. Shenoy is a board-certified and fellowship-trained hematologist specializing in cellular therapies for blood cancers including chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy, autologous stem cell transplantation, and allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation. Many patients come to her at an important turning point—when a diagnosis is new, when treatment needs to change, or when a second opinion is sought. At these moments, she helps patients understand their options and what each path could mean for their care.
Dr. Shenoy has cared for patients across the MedStar Health system for many years, guiding people with blood cancers from diagnosis through treatment decisions and long term follow up. She also brings experience from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health, where she cared for patients with rare disorders.
Dr. Shenoy has published extensively in peer reviewed medical journals and has served as a principal investigator on clinical trials. For patients, this means she stays closely connected to the latest evidence and can discuss when standard therapy is the best option and when a clinical trial may offer another path—always with a focus on safety, side effects, and quality of life.
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Shenoy gets to know each patient as a person, including their background, their concerns, and what matters most to them. Cell-based treatments can feel unfamiliar, so she takes the time to walk them through what happens at each stage, talks openly about benefits and risks, and makes sure patients know what to expect and who to contact if questions or concerns arise. Her goal is for her patients to feel supported and prepared, not rushed or overwhelmed.
She believes patients deserve time and space to talk about what is most important to them. As she gets to know her patients, she encourages open conversations about worries, expectations, and goals. Together, they review options and choose an approach that fits the patient’s priorities, whether that includes moving forward with a cellular therapy, exploring a clinical trial, or assessing another path. To support this process, a dedicated team reviews patient cases regularly, bringing together shared expertise so recommendations are well considered.
She wants each of her patients to feel heard, informed, and confident in the path she helps guide, knowing they have a trusted partner throughout their healthcare journey.
Education & Training
Dr. Shenoy earned her medical degree from the University of Iowa and completed her internal medicine residency at the University of California San Diego. She then completed a hematology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. This training helps her guide patients through challenging decisions and to plan care carefully before, during, and after cellular therapy.
Dr. Shenoy is also a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the United States Cutaneous Lymphoma Consortium. Through these organizations, she remains engaged with emerging research and evolving treatment advances, helping keep care aligned with current best practices.
