What is Cardiac Contractility Modulation (CCM)?
Cardiac Contractility Modulation (CCM) therapy is a new approach to improve the pumping of the heart in people living with heart failure. CCM delivers precisely timed electrical signals to the heart at each heartbeat to strengthen contraction and improve cardiac performance. Today, more than 9,000 patients across 45 countries have received CCM therapy.
Who is a candidate for CCM?
CCM is especially helpful for people whose heart failure symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, or leg swelling continue despite heart medications or are worsening over time.
CCM therapy may also be appropriate for those with:
- Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) between 25% and 45%
- New York Heart Association (NYHA) Class III symptoms
- Symptoms persist despite guideline-directed medical therapy
*CCM is not indicated as a substitute for cardiac resynchronization (CRT).
How does CCM work?
The Optimizer Smart Mini is a palm-sized device that delivers CCM therapy. It is implanted under the skin of the upper chest just below the collarbone. Two thin leads connected to the device pass through a vein and into the heart, where they deliver precisely timed electrical signals to the heart. The Optimizer Smart Mini is designed with a 20-year battery life.
Designed with a 20 year battery life, the Optimizer Smart Mini delivers The device delivers precisely timed electrical pulses to the heart for a total of 5 hours each a day, divided into one-hour treatment sessions. Many patients notice improvements in their heart The pumping strength ability of the heart improves within hours of treatment. Over the following days to weeks, the heart’s size and shape may begin to return to normal, and pumping function continues to improve.
